BULLIED AT SCHOOL……

Please help! I went through depression for two months straight, I was bullied at school and people would tell me how worthless, ugly, and dumb I am. I lost the motivation to properly take care of myself and I stopped brushing my hair. I let their words get to me, now I go to online school but yeah I let myself go. I hope I am sending this to the correct email address. I could really use some help. Several months ago I fell into a severe depression after suffering a completely unexpected and random pregnancy complication at 8 months along that resulted in my daughter being stillborn. I stopped caring about everything, including personal hygiene/appearance. When I think about how bad it got, I feel so ashamed and humiliated.

I am currently trying to recover and get my life back together, even if only for my daughter; I know she is looking down on me and is with me every day. Unfortunately, my hair was neglected pretty badly. After 3 months of doing nothing to take care of my hair, except the occasional quick 5 second shampoo during the few rare times I could manage getting out of bed and take a shower,. Wy hair is severely matted.

My hair before was waist length and thick, which has made hiding my matted hair difficult. I have just been putting it up into something that resembles a bun. I am beyond embarrassed that this has happened and I am angry with myself for things getting so out of control.

Do you have any tips for detangling my hair myself? I can't afford to buy any hair products nor to pay someone to detangle my hair. The only thing I have to put in mY hair is unrefined coconut oil. Would putting coconut oil in my hair and letting it soak in help detangle my hair or would it make things worse?

Only a few very close family members and friends know the extent of the matting. They have tried to help and detangle my hair received last. I've gone to several salons to talk with experienced stylists and they have all said my hair is beyond saving and needs to be cut. I don't want to cut my long hair, but I'm starting to feel like that's the only option. I would just really appreciate any tips on how to detangle my matted hair by myself. God bless you all for the work you do. After emailing you all last night, I watched some of your YouTube videos. I was amazed at the results. It gave me hope that my hair can be saved when everyone else has told me it can't. Thank you for the work you do and thank you for treating people with nothing but kindness. Many of the stylists I went to for consultations were so hurtful. They looked at me with disgust and were judgmental and condescending. It just made me feel worse about myself than I already do. 

6 MONTH OLD PONYTAIL……

Hello, I am writing in regard to my 15-year-old daughter who for the last 6 months has had her hair in a ponytail and has been hiding the fact that his become a tangled mass of one giant knot. I spent four hours trying to come it out this evening making very little progress.  I feel terrible that it has gotten this far out of control. I believe this all started because of depression but now I feel that the hair in and of itself has become a main cause of the depression. Actually had some conversations about maybe having to cut the hair off. I don't want to do that because I am concerned that it will adversely impact her already faltering self-esteem. TANGERINE SIZE KNOT MATTING MY HAIR……

 Hi  I'm from St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. For the past 6 months my hair has been a complete disaster. I had the bottom layer in dread locks and for a short while was unable to maintain my hair- causing matting of my regular hair. I stopped wearing it down, as it consumed almost ALL of my hair. After wearing my hair up for the past however many months and not being able to brush it, there are other dread locks forming as well as the fact that I have a HUGE chunk of hair about the size of a tangerine completely knotted up into a giant ball that is now matting the rest of my hair. I don't know what to do, can someone please help!? Or refer me somewhere someone could help!? I'd greatly appreciate it, and would rather not have to chop ALL of my hair off seeing as how I used to take such pride in my long hair (past my butt.)

I used a ridiculous amount of Dove extra hold hairspray in my hair one day in September.I didn't brush or wash it out for a few days aftewards, which was a big mistake because now my hair is  balled-up, tangled, glued mess.This was 6 months ago and I haven't worked or left my apartment since.My hair used to be down my back, more than 20 inches, now its balled up above my neck.I've tried dishsoap, olive oil, rubbing alcohol, nail polish remover, nothing will remove the extreme amount of hairspray.It's ruined my life, I can't be seen in public as I look ridiculous, I've gained 20 pounds, havent worked and become isolated and anti-social.Regardless, I can't bring mself to cut my hair, always had long hair, and the amount that would have to be cut would leave me with no length at all.At this I'll try anything.Please help me! Hello, I would like to introduce myself, I am a person in desperate need of help both physically because of my extremely matted hair and mentally due to the depression and isolation I have been suffering through for the past 2 years. 3/4 of my long, naturally curly hair is and has been severly matted which has caused me to stay at home and away from people due to the embarrassment I feel daily regarding my hair condition. It has been so long ago that this occurred that I truly cannot remember what caused the tangled hair to occur but what i do know is that I got in the shower thinking that I would work out the mess with conditioner while in the hot water. That decision changed my life so drastically that I now am a prisoner in my own home. I have no life and have become so depressed that I have even contemplated ending my life because I just don't feel I can continue on this way. I have a very good dear friend that I stay with who is trying to help me with my hair but it is taking its tole on our relationship and more and more every day i sink into a deeper and deeper depression.  Hi! I noticed my hair was severely matted (almost like I had dreads) when I left in a senegalese twist style in for over 4 months. I am natural so this was a problem. Since then, I haven't been able to properly detangle my hair. I am extremely impatient so I get frustrated and cut my strands. I went from mid back length to shoulder length because of my impatience with my tangles, knots, and mattes. I have been going through a rough transition in my personal life lately and I feel that avoiding haircare has been a side effect of that. I don't want to face reality and doing my hair forces me to. I recently took out a crotchet style (1 month old) and I am still facing the same issue. I never quite detangled my hair from over a year ago, instead I either cut it or braid around it, so you can imagine the damage I have probably done to my hair. ........ I've had my hair matted for about almost 2 months now my hair goes halfway down my butt and it is now matted into one huge not that I can not get out I've never seen anything like this I've tried everything I've tried to Taylors conditioners and even seen on YouTube to soak my hair in bleach that's the only thing that has come closest to getting this out but it's damaged my hair so bad and I don't want to cut it its not it from my scalp all the way down I cannot even run my fingers through it if I tried its so bad my scalp is blistering from it pulling so hard on the back of my head can you please help me give me some advice or send me somewhere to somebody that is trained in this kind of mess thank you so much

I hope you are well. I am in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and have long curly hair that is tangled and really BADLY matted at the scalp, which is unfortunately really PULLING AND HURTING my scalp. I was not able to care for my curly hair properly given that my bathroom ceiling/roof fell in early February and now my entire home is contaminated with mold toxicity, which is not helping to keep my hair manageable or tangle free.  Matted Due To Illness In London

Hi there,
I live in London, and about 6 months ago I got
whooping cough and had it for 3 months, and over that period
I really neglected my hair because I was so ill. It became
incredibly matted all over my head. Recently I managed to
brush out the left side by cutting up and through the matts
and then brushing, but I lost a fair bit of length. I'm

Dear Tangled Techs,

I have severe RA which put me in a wheelchair for over 3 years.  After have both knees and hips replaced, I can now walk somewhat.  I had gained a lot of weight while being in the chair, so I opted for bariatric surgery to help my joints.

Unfortunately,  the RA has now jumped to my shoulders making it very difficult to brush my hair and my hair has become very fine since the since the surgery.  It is now a tight matted mess!  I've tried some detanglers and conditioners, nothing really worked.  What little bit I've managed to pick out, sleeping on it works it back in again!

I fear that my once signature "Gibson Bun" will have to be shaved off and my long time collection of vintage hair accessories should just be thrown out!

What do I do?!

Matted While Sunbathing

PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME! I put Betadine & Glycerin in my hair while sunbathing. (I have done this before but, not while in the sun). I scrunched it up on top of my head. In a panic I made matters worse by putting a hat on my head. I have one massive long ball like a mo hock on top of my head fused together like cement. My hair literally looks like it melted together although I can't imagine those two products melting it. I have tried for days to get it out, using peanut butter, coconut oil and olive oil. At this point I just want to disappear.

Take Down Remover is my final hope before cutting off my precious locks at the scalp.  I can't let people see me like this. Do you think it is possible that this might work? I took off work two days because I work in a busy office and really can't go in with a baseball cap without a good excuse.

Hair Combed, Tore, Now is no More!

Thanks for contacting me but it's too late, my hair is no more.  I was hoping that my niece who is a hairdresser would get me out of trouble, she kept tugging at my hair, it all ripped out.  It's horrible.  I feel really upset about the whole thing.  I was mentioning this product to her and she just didn't want to know too much.  I was hoping that my hair she could save but this didn't occur.  She didn't cut it ,it was just combed hard until it tore. My head really hurts as it was painful also. I wish I had received your reply much earlier before she started.  It was like a birdsnest in a bit tangle that's how best I can describe it and in a big clump.  I didn't photograph it was too upsetting.  I would have purchased the product had I known it was available to purchase and would have waiting until it arrived if I had received a response earlier but the time difference between countries is different so that's why it's hard to get a reply quickly.  The worst thing I did was to wash it yesterday which tightened the hair and matted it even more.  She came over at 5 pm my time and it is now 11.25 pm at night here.  It took almost two hours for all this and at the end I was really upset and still am.  

She used olive oil to try and untangle it but that really didn't work just caused a lot of hair being torn/ripped, well broken.  I am really upset about it.  It took me years to grow my hair as it is really fine and it doesn't grow fast.

I just hope it all grows back but my hair doesn't grow fast at all as indicated.

Can you let me know what the cost of the product is just in case I need it as my hair does tangle easily because of it being so fine and how do you order the product and is it just one item or many?

Matted Mother’s Mistake in Canada

Hi my name is Kate and I live in Toronto Ontario Canada. I've been very sick for the past few months now and because of being so ill, my hair got neglected and I made the biggest mistake by washing my hair which has created a large, hard matted mess :( its embarrassing and I hate having to wear something on my head all the time. My health isn't looking so good but I dont want to look how i feel, i would like to at least feel somewhat normal and how I looked before. Hi. This is neha. I really need your help asap. I used vatika cactus hair oil on my hair for the first time, a friend told me to try it for hairfall. Hi, I am lost and don't know what to do. It's a long story but I was in bed for over a year with severe depression and my hair is matted, tangled, knotted....I have tried everything.

I got through my depression, but my hair is bringing me back. It is so bad at this point that I cannot go outside without a hat. I am so embarrassed i sit in the house all day and i can't get a job because of my hair so my husband is paying for everything which makes me more depressed and we are struggling.

I have been literally trying to get the knots out of my hair for months. Water made it worse so now i am afraid to wash it. i ordered the takedown removed cream which helped, but not enough.

Please.....is their anything you can do to help me? I am already considering cancelling the beach trip with my whole family in March, when summer comes i won't be able to wear a hat everyday. My ten year reunion is this year.

Is the Barber Shop My Only Answer……
I just removed a weave from my hair that I have enjoyed for five months,  There was a tremendous amount of new hair growth.  After removing the weave, there was some dryness and one patch of matted hair - about the size of a quarter.  I saturated my hair with a product called Cactus oil Serum for dry damaged hair and left it in overnight.  Thinking that it was ok, I jumped in the shower and proceeded to shampoo my hair - which wasn't a problem until I put conditioned on!  What a huge mistake that was!  I actually felt my hair tightening up and it became one HUGE MATTED MESS!  Is there any hope or is the barber shop my only answer!?

My hair is matted from a sew in I had for about 6months.. I washed my hair it was fine then I applied conditioner to my hair, thats when my hair got badly matted, knotted. Hot Water And Conditioner……

I had tangled hair and used hot water and conditioner to try and untangle my hair, which matted it into big clumps. The clumps are matted pretty tight and seems impossible to untangle. I really don\'t want to loose my hair, so I am looking for an tangled tech closest to where I live. I am from the Metro Detroit area.
If you could provide some guidance I\'d be greatly appreciative.

My Hair Has Ruined My Life the Past Year ……

My hair is a knotted, tangled, matted, dreaded mess. Before this happened, which is a really sad story, my hair was waist length so all of that is basicially a birds nest with tons of knots and its so hard on the crown of my head is where most of the length is matted,dreaded and tangled.

Shampooed Immediately after Braids Removed……

 Hi i had braids in my hair and i just took it out . immediately washed it with shampoo and conditioner. It now very tangled to an extent that a comb can't pass through it. i afraid am going to loss my hair or cut it off. what can I do to save my hair.please help me.thx

I Went To A Salon……

Do you have any “Tangled Hair Techs” in the Indianapolis area?  Or anywhere in Indiana, for that matter—I am willing to travel if it means saving my hair (although I do have financial limitations to consider)!  I have tried detangling this mess myself, and when that didn’t work, I went to a salon.  Well, they couldn’t even undo what has essentially become one giant dreadlock.  I am scared and depressed and anxious and beginning to feel absolutely hopeless.  I don’t want to have to shave my head, but unless your team can help me, I’m afraid that is my only option.  Please help—I will beg and plead and do whatever it takes! 

I Used Regular Conditioner Mixed with Hand Lotion……

Hi, I am sure you have recieved similar desperate calls for help! I have some really BAD knots, no, BALL size tangled knots in my hair! I had a leg injury and was bedridden fot three months. I have almost waist lenght hair, I follow the Sufi Path and the hair are a part of my spiritual journey. Needless to say, I would feel " empty" without them. I could feel them knotting up under my hairband, I tie a ponytail but though I could be administered bed sponges, washing hair was not possible. I am better now and decided to take a proper bath and wash my hair. I googled and found I wud need to use a leqve in detangling conditioner. I tried in on but had absolutely no effect on the " balls" of hair. I tried without success and in desperation tried all the tricks I had read about, literally soaked them in oil, no luck,on top of the conditioner and oil,I used regular conditioner mixed with hand lotion. They seemed to bunch up more! And felt even tighter! Went looking for a hair salon for advise or selevtive trimming to salvage what we could, but its Sunday and the salons were closed. Last mistake I made was to use conditioner  by the handful and tried washing them hoping that they would have softened up and may untangle! I know its not advised to use water as they shrink. But I thought if I leave the conditioner in overnight they may get worse.
Is there any advise you can kindly give me in this regard? I have my hair since 1998, and have not even had them trimmed for the reasons I mentioned earlier! I am already in depression thinking what if I have to have them cut!

 Choking Incident, Heart Stopped & Stroke……

My sister-in-law suffered a choking incident a few years ago. Her heart stopped several times and she had a stroke during the incident. She's had a big tangle on the back of her head ever since, but none of us knew. We just thought she was wearing a bump-it or something. 

The emergency is that her father's funeral is on Thursday morning and she lives out of town. None of us can get away to go help her with this and she can't come early because her cat is disabled and she can't leave it alone that long. 

I realize this is a short time frame to work with, but can you help her? She lives in Kokomo, Indiana.

Washed My Hair Before Detangling……

I recently took out my sew-in extensions and mistakenly washed my hair before detangling.  Now my hair is a matted, tangled MESS. My natural hair is very curly so it's even more demanding.  I have a scholarship dinner to attend this weekend so I am DESPERATE. If the product is not available or will not reach in time could you PLEASE refer me to other products or techniques to help get me out of this mess. Two Tangerine Size Balls…….

Hello, I would love you to help me. My daughter (16) has an enormous knot of hair on the back of her head - two tangerine size balls either side of the back of her head and a lot of matting between them . My daughter had very low self esteem issues and her hair got neglected and now we seem to be on an upwards struggle to put it right. Do you have people In the UK - we can travel if necessary.

Cancer Patient on Chemo……

I'm in Melbourne, Australia. I'm a cancer patient on Chemo and for Christmas my fiancé got me a sew in weave to cheer me up over my hair loss! 

I've had it in 2 weeks and have tried to maintain it but in the last 4 days I went from pretty long curls to hair that was half that length and badly matted! 
I have tried and tried spending hours a day with the help of a friend! 

Yes the girl who did my hair did a BAD job sewing it in... My hair underneath is unravelling, and now joining in this matted party! 
It's already fragile enough I am scared and freaking out!

5 year old daughter with Autism……

I really hope you can help me, I have a 5 year old daughter who has autism, from the moment her hair need brushing she hated it, screaming like I have never heard. We used to brush it and eventually calm her down but once she was diagnosed we realised there was more to it.

We carried on but then she refused to have a bath, it took 6 months to get her to get in the bath after that.

Needless to say her hair has suffered terribly, It has a slight curl to ends but is straight otherwise, it is now saturated to her head like a bird nest, you can feel the rim of it which covers most of her head. It is very long and I have tried Takedown remover cream but she doesn't have the patience to let me do it for long.

I've been looking for the services of a professional to help me detangle the huge Matt that has formed in my hair.

It first formed about a year ago and has slowly got worse, at one point it was covering my whole head. I have removed some of it but now has got to the point that I can't do anymore without help.

It's getting me so down and upset as I used to have beautiful long hair and now I have to have it tied up on a ball on my head. After recent weight gain I feel like I have lost all self confidence in myself.
